Employee profile – David Natusch

What led you to where you are today?

Following a military career in the Army and with a background and passion for architectural joinery and a love of sailing, I became a professional builder and captain of superyachts for the most exclusive of international clients, travelling around the world to deliver projects. The quality, attention to detail, diplomacy and organisational skills required for this line of work naturally lent itself to project management and particularly in speciality construction.

When I eventually returned to the UK, I pursued interests in the emerging renewable energy industry and together with a PhD student at Lancaster University started a business analysing large swathes of land and buildings to identify the most suitable locations for renewable energy projects and conducted a large number of commercial feasibility studies for government and private clients.

I continue to have a real passion for sustainability and one of the things I most enjoy about working with DDK is the opportunity to work with forward-thinking clients to reduce their carbon footprint in innovative ways and developing improvements in the way the buildings are designed, constructed and operated.

What attracted you to DDK?

It was absolutely the appetite and interest that all the Directors have in using digital technology to improve construction: using virtual reality to model a facility before building it to maximise efficiency and facilitate carbon management, building a 360 virtual tour archive through the life of the project, and ultimately using augmented reality to support the final occupier to operate the facility effectively.

How have you found working with DDK?

It’s very enjoyable to work with the team here. There is a huge breadth and depth of experience and knowledge which commands respect, while still remaining open to learning and applying new and innovative approaches to deliver the best result for the client.

Fun Fact

I once water-skied behind a helicopter in Canada – Not as much fun as it sounds – visibility was very poor due to the downwash!
