IT Systems support Intelligent Construction

When I first started working on construction sites some years ago, the primary method of recording site details, snags or safety observations was a pencil and paper, which then had to be written up upon return to the site office.

This always struck me as very time-consuming and labour-intensive so when we started DDK, we were committed to buying the best available cutting-edge technology that would maximise site time and contribute to our Intelligent Construction approach.

Our site teams use Microsoft’s Surface devices that enable them to go around the site taking pictures, viewing drawings, annotating and marking up on the spot and then returning to the site office – dock and have a full blown computer. We have invested in proprietary systems that are all connected via our SharePoint-based Construction Management System, removing human error and allowing us to deliver best in class service.

Our virtual reality (VR) hardware had to be bespoke built in order to support the software and digital twin models that we create, with a backpack computer allowing us to offer mobile VR.

This is all part of our Intelligent Construction approach, whereby we use tools and technologies to work smarter, reduce construction timeframes and maximise efficiencies.
